Ellie Gee
Ruby Able
Ellie Gee is the youngest British actress on the Molly Moon cast list. Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism is her first feature film. Prior to this she featured in Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse’s British comedies Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul, (2007) and Harry & Paul’s Story of the 2s, (2014).
Ellie Gee will be much more grown up now, but when she acted in our film, playing Ruby she was really very little. Lots of people in the audience say ‘Ahhhhh’ when she says to Miss Adderstone “That’s my teddy.”
Interview with Ellie Gee
Q: How did you start acting?
A: I started at Sylvia Young Theatre School every Saturday when I was 4 years old. I do dancing, singing and drama. After I started Saturday classes I went for an audition to join the agency, and I was very lucky to be chosen. From there, I started going for auditions for numerous things, one of which was Molly Moon, my first big acting role.
Q: Why do you love acting?
A: I enjoy acting because you get to do really fun stuff and I enjoy being different people.
Q: How did you feel when you got the part in Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism?
A: I was really happy to be chosen for a part in Molly Moon. I couldn’t wait to start filming. Luckily I didn’t have to wait to long.
Q: Were you ever scared or nervous on set?
A: I was a little nervous on set when I first started as there were so many people and they were all watching me, but once I got used to it I was quite brave and it was fun.
Q: Do you think you are quite similar to Ruby?
A: I’m a little bit older than Ruby, I don’t wear nappies and I don’t live in an orphanage, and my parents are kinder than Mrs Adderstone. They are more like Mrs Trinklebury. I do like butterflies though, just like Ruby!
Q: If you weren’t acting in the film, what other process would you liked to have been involved with?
A: I would like to have been the dog trainer!!
Q: Did you do anything to prepare for the role of Ruby?
A: I read the book with the help of my mum, and I tried to understand who Ruby was.
Q: What was your favourite moment or thing that happened whilst filming?
A: I enjoyed eating ketchup sandwiches in a scene, yum!!
Q. Did anything really funny happen to you on set?
A: I found the scene when we had to eat fish soup really funny, especially as Fern had an eyeball floating in hers. I had to eat my soup and pretend it was really horrible but it was really nice.
