Lucas Bond
Gerry Oakly
Lucas Bond is a young British actor, who will make his film debut with Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism. Lucas also has a part in the up-coming horror movie – Lady of Csejte, (2014).
We were delighted to find Lucas Bond. I was especially pleased as he looks exactly like I imagined Jinx when I was writing the book. Lucas was lovely and a very good actor too. He says the line, “I wish we had parents” so sweetly that it brings tears to the eyes of mums watching. I love the scene at the end of the film where he is calling Molly on the phone to ask her when she’s coming home, and the way he looks so puzzled at the hypnotised Miss Adderstone.
In the original script, Jinx had a pet mouse. Unfortunately Jinx’s pet mouse was cut from the script and I know Lucas was disappointed about this. I know Lucas would have made great friends with that mouse and they would have been a dream team.. Sorry Lucas!
Interview with Lucas Bond
Q: How did you start acting?
A: I always loved singing, dancing and acting. When I was much younger my sister used to make me be Sky in Mamma Mia when she was singing with her friends! I started a drama group called Courage Performers when I was five and started my LAMDA examinations in speech and drama too. Fliss, my teacher at Courage Performers, introduced me to an agent and I started going to auditions in London and later that year I got the call for Molly Moon!
Q: Why do you love acting?
A: I love the people you get to meet on set, the amazing crew and the fun you can have pretending to be someone else!
Q: How did you feel when you got the part in Molly Moon and the Incredible Book of Hypnotism?
A: I screamed and jumped around in the car as we were travelling to see friends for the weekend. It was the best start to a weekend, ever.
Q: Were you ever scared or nervous on set?
A: The house was a bit spooky that we filmed in! One day my lines were completely changed the morning before a big scene and I was worried I wouldn’t remember them, I got very nervous and Chris Rowley the Director came out to talk to me and made me feel better. The scene was great fun in the end.
Q: Do you think you are quite similar to Gerry?
A: I was the same age as Gerry when we started filming and I can be caring and kind like Gerry, sometimes! I would also quite like some pet mice but mummy is not so sure.
Q: If you weren’t acting in the film, what other process would you liked to have been involved with?
A: Stuntman definitely!
Q: Did you do anything to prepare for the role of Gerry?
A: We read the whole script and then read the book to understand Gerry’s character. I worked with my drama teacher on lots of improvisations like playing tricks on headmistresses! I didn’t try it for real at school though!!
Q: What was your favourite moment or thing that happened whilst filming?
A: A special thing which happened during the filming of Molly Moon was when I was told that the mouse was not able to be used in the film, I felt quite sad, the next day some of the crew gave me a cuddly mouse which I have treasured and he sleeps on my bed still!
I loved meeting Dominic Monaghan as I love Lord of the Rings!
Q. Did anything really funny happen to you on set?
A: My funniest moment on set was after my telephone call to Molly, Mrs Adderstone comes in acting like a baby and we got the giggles – it was too funny!
Lucas has had an amazing time since filming Molly Moon. He was cast as the lead with Isabelle Allen (Les Misérables) in a thriller/horror, which he spent five weeks filming in Romania last November! Molly Moon started him on a crazy journey – it has been much fun!
